Travel like a local

Penang Food Tour Explore Georgetown's amazing cuisine!

About the tour

It is a private food tour around Georgetown for 1-4 people, typically lasting 2 or 3 hours, but I can be flexible to shape the schedule around you. If you want to see more then we can even do multiple days. You'll need to pay for the food, of course. If we decide to go further than walking distance, we can go by taxi. Luckily the taxis are very cheap and there's delicious food to suit every budget.

  • Customised tour to your tastes.
  • Malay, Indian & Chinese food!
  • Enjoy some of the famous street art along the way.
  • Learn about the food - I've spent months researching and exploring the food in Malaysia!
  • Experience some of the best food in Penang, including some local favourites you won't find on TripAdvisor or Lonely Planet.
  • If you're vegetarian, don't like spicy food or have any other preferences, just let me know. The tour is tailored to you!

Pricing

Standard price for a 2-3 hour tour is RM40 per adult (children are free). Food and drink is not included as everything is optional and the tours are fully customised to your tastes, but you can expect the extras to be only RM15 - RM30 per person.

Book a tour!

Please send an email to tours@ and specify when you'd like to do the tour, along with any dietary requirements.

Update: I'm currently away from Penang but please feel free to email me with any questions or use my self-guided food tour of Penang instead.

What to expect

The fully customised tours may include some of the following...

Roti Canai

Possibly my favourite snack in Malaysia. These amazing Indian breads are extremely popular in Penang and all across Malaysia. They're often eaten for breakfast but are regularly enjoyed at any time of the day or night. The best ones are cooked fresh to order and served with one or more curry sauces.

Cendol

This cold dessert soup is a perfect way to cool down in the heat. It's made from coconut milk, shaved ice, palm sugar and little green flour noodles (which are what the dessert is named after). It's sometimes sold as a drink and can be found in other regions around South East Asia but Penang is famous for it and does it best, in my opinion.

Nasi Kandar

If you like Indian food, you can't miss nasi kandar. It originates from Penang and is one of the best flavour sensations you're likely to try. A plate of rice is loaded with your choice of curries, vegetables, meats or fish and topped with curry sauces. Not to be missed in Penang!

A selection of other dishes

The tour can be tailor-made to your tastes. The length and number of stops is up to you. It's best if we discuss what type of tour you're looking for either beforehand or we can meet on the day and talk about it then.

Street art & beautiful buildings

As we walk around Georgetown, we can see some of the famous street art and amazing arcitecture.
